How long will the Nuna PIPA last?

The Nuna PIPA series of infant car seats are designed to keep your baby safe and comfortable for approximately the first year of life. These seats are ideal for newborns and infants, supporting children from as small as 4 pounds with included low-birth weight inserts up to 11 pounds.

How Long Can My Baby Use the Nuna PIPA?

Nuna currently offers six versions of the PIPA series:

Each car seat is suitable for babies until they reach the 32-inch height limit or the 35-pound weight limit — whichever comes first. Typically, babies reach the height limit before the weight limit. When there’s less than an inch of space between your child’s head and the top of the car seat, it’s time to transition to a convertible car seat, like the Nuna RAVA.

The infant inserts and head support can stay in place as long as your baby needs them. Remove them when the harness feels too snug, but always ensure a snug and secure fit:

  • The harness should be flat and free of slack

  • It should not press uncomfortably on your child

  • You shouldn’t be able to pinch any excess strap when properly tightened

Nuna PIPA Expiration

Like all infant car seats, Nuna PIPA seats have an expiration date to ensure your car seat remains fully effective. The expiration is typically 7 years from the original purchase date, which you can find printed on the bottom of both the seat shell and base.

Why replace an expired seat? Over time, the materials used in car seats — including foam, plastic, and metal — naturally degrade due to:

  • Daily use

  • Temperature changes in your vehicle

  • Exposure to humidity or sunlight

Seats past their expiration date may no longer provide the structural integrity required in an accident, so replacing your car seat on schedule is essential to keep your little one safe.

  • Ensure the harness is at or just below your baby’s shoulder for rear-facing positioning

  • Use inserts as needed for low-birth weight babies
